Steven Wilamowsky focuses on bankruptcy and has represented debtors, individual creditors, DIP lenders, creditors’ committees, landlords, plan sponsors, foreign debtors and purchasers of assets of distressed companies. 

Steven has been actively involved in numerous complex restructuring and acquisition matters on behalf of clients. Recent matters include the representation of large institutional lenders, loan purchasers and servicers in a number of mortgage originator cases, including ResCap, New Century, American Home and Taylor Bean & Whitaker; the representation of a pre-eminent real estate management and investment firm as the stalking horse bidder in several commercial and residential real estate bankruptcies; the representation of agent banks in the R.H. Donnelly case; and the representation of several individual and trust creditors in the Madoff SIPA proceedings. On the debtor side, Steven currently represents the interests of various liquidating estates in the Refco Chapter 11 cases and represented the debtors in the Evergreen Solar chapter 11 case.

He also has extensive bankruptcy appellate experience. These include, among other things, having obtained, on behalf of his debtor clients, the reversal of adverse lower court rulings at the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in the National Energy & Gas Transmission Inc. (f/k/a PG&E National Energy Group) Chapter 11 cases, involving claims in excess of $150 million. He also has experience in the restructuring of failed or distressed development projects, having frequently represented bondholders in cases involving the restructuring of offshore energy development projects through Chapter 11 proceedings.

Steven served as law clerk for the Hon. Tina L. Brozman in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York from 1994 to 1996.
