, July 27, 2011 — Partner Doc Merrill
was recognized by the Daily Journal
for his outstanding work in the real estate practice area over the past year. Merrill was noted for his work on behalf of State Street Bank in its acquisition of a $500 million-plus mortgage note for the Heritage Fields at El Toro development in Orange County, Calif., for $153 million. Merrill helped guide State Street Bank in negotiating a highly complex restructuring of hundreds of millions of dollars in debt owed by the project developer. The deal helped push forward a $1.4 billion, 700-acre project located on one of Orange County’s most valuable pieces of real estate — a development that is set to include 5,000 new homes, more than 5 million square feet of commercial space and a metropolitan park twice the size of New York’s Central Park. Partners Ed Smith
and Susan Duvall
and counsel Camarin Madigan
also worked on this matter.
