Michael Glazer Joins as Partner; Arrival of Experienced Lawyer Strengthens Bingham’s Investment Management Team in Southern California, Nationally

LOS ANGELES (August 24, 2009) - Continuing its strategic growth in Southern California and nationally, Bingham McCutchen LLP has expanded its leading investment management practice with the addition of Michael Glazer as a partner in the Los Angeles office.

Glazer joins Bingham’s Investment Management Practice Group and Financial Services Area from Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP. He represents investment advisers and investment companies in all aspects of their organization, registration, operation, acquisitions and liquidations. Glazer also serves as counsel to independent directors of investment companies.

“Mike’s extensive experience advising on high-level securities and investment  matters, coupled with his deep knowledge of the Southern California and national  markets, will be a great benefit to our clients,” said Roger Joseph, co-chair of Bingham’s Financial Services Area and head of the Investment Management Practice Group. “He is an outstanding lawyer who is well respected throughout the industry.”

Rick Welch, managing partner in Los Angeles, agreed. “Mike’s investment management practice and reputation in the investment adviser and investment company area nicely complement our corporate and private equity practices,” said Welch.  “His deep network of contacts in the legal community and his stellar reputation will help us significantly strengthen our financial services practice in the region.”

The strength of Bingham’s investment management platform, its formidable bench of lawyers and its robust operations in Southern California, nationally and globally attracted Glazer to the firm.

“Bingham’s investment management practice is world class, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with such a talented team of lawyers,” Glazer added. “Additionally,  the firm’s national platform and the practice’s integrated approach will allow me to provide critical services to clients who face a growing list of challenges in the ever-changing financial and regulatory environment.”

Glazer is the latest addition to Bingham in Southern California. Bingham recently added Christopher Cox, former SEC chairman and 17 year U.S. congressman from Orange County, as a corporate partner in its Orange County office; Nathan Hochman, the former U.S. assistant attorney general, Tax Division, as a litigation partner in its Santa Monica office; and James J. Thompson as a corporate partner in its Los Angeles office.

Nationally, Bingham recently completed its combination with McKee Nelson,  a 120-lawyer firm noted for its practices in tax, business litigation, capital markets and structured finance. The combination expands Bingham’s presence significantly in New York and Washington, D.C., and allows it to provide a broad range of services to international financial services firms and Fortune 100 companies.

Glazer is the former chair of the executive committee in the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Business and Corporation Law Section. He was also a member of the State Bar’s Corporation Committee. He received his J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles, his M.B. A. from Harvard Business School, and his bachelor’s degree, Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University.
