For over 25 years Stuart Rosen has represented corporate and institutional clients in complex commercial litigation in a wide range of matters, including contract disputes, business torts, insurance and reinsurance, and real estate. He has extensive experience litigating matters in federal and state courts and in arbitrations, and has participated in alternate dispute resolution programs, including mediations. He has also successfully argued a number of appeals to the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts.
Stuart is a member of the firm’s Insurance Group. He represents a number of leading insurers in litigation and coverage matters involving mass torts, environmental pollution, silica and asbestos. Recently, he led Bingham’s litigation team in representing a major insurer in several multibillion-dollar asbestos “pre-packaged” bankruptcies involving issues of first impression, and in related coverage litigation. He has also handled disputes arising out of group life and health coverage, brokerage disputes, and reinsurance litigation involving environmental and asbestos liability claims.
In additional to his commercial litigation matters, Stuart is currently defending a large Connecticut hospital in connection with over 130 claims of alleged sexual abuse arising out of the conduct of a former hospital physician. One of Stuart’s more noteworthy cases was his successful representation of a Detroit museum in a “custody battle” over ownership of the original “Howdy Doody” puppet from the 1950’s television show. The case generated substantial national and international media coverage.
Stuart has been a commercial arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association since 1993 and currently serves on the Large Complex Case Panel. He was also named a Special Master by the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. He has lectured on trial practice for various business and professional organizations. Prior to joining the firm, Stuart was vice chairman of the litigation department of a large Connecticut law firm.
Stuart was selected for inclusion in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the area of commercial litigation.
