Jason Pinney focuses his practice on general commercial and securities litigation. He represents and advises businesses and individuals in a wide variety of matters including class actions, shareholder suits and securities arbitrations. Jason also has experience representing clients in regulatory proceedings before the SEC, FINRA and state securities agencies.

Jason is part of the Bingham team that in 2008 won landmark victories in its pro bono representation of Guantanamo prisoners. The team won the first-ever review of a Guantanamo prisoner’s case under the Detainee Treatment Act in the unanimous decision of Parhat v. Gates, 532 F.3d 834 (D.C. Cir. 2008). In October, in the first-ever merits review of a Guantanamo habeas case, the team obtained a habeas judgment ordering the immediate release of clients into the United States. Kiyemba v. Bush, 581 F. Supp. 2d 33 (D.D.C. 2008) (on appeal to the Supreme Court).

Jason received his J.D. magna cum laude from Boston College Law School where he was an executive editor for the Environmental Affairs Law Review, and taught environmental law to undergraduates. He currently serves as general counsel to MetroLacrosse Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides sports-based character education programs to approximately 500 children in and around Boston.
