Just as Bingham’s legal advice is precisely tailored to each client’s unique business goals, our Hong Kong office capabilities have been carefully shaped to meet the complex needs of a demanding client segment — international financial institutions, corporates, hedge funds and capital markets participants.
Within the Hong Kong office, our lawyers — who are qualified in five jurisdictions, including Hong Kong, England and Wales, the United States, Australia, and Ireland — have extensive experience in financial restructuring and distressed debt, corporate/M&A, finance, investment funds, structured finance transactions, and litigation.
Who Do We Look For?
We are looking for bright, enthusiastic and personable candidates with exceptional academics from a leading university, combined with evidence of extracurricular achievement. Some experience working in the legal sector is preferred. Prospective trainees must show initiative, drive, confidence and the desire to be part of a challenging yet friendly environment. The ability to communicate fluently at a business level in written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin and preferably also Cantonese) is required.
Training and Development
The way we do business means you will benefit from a bespoke training programme with a high level of partner involvement. You will assume responsibilities from the start and gain practical experience as well as more formal training in our financial restructuring, finance, investment funds and corporate practices.
Your time with us begins with an induction course that introduces you to the firm’s main departments, to our office and accounting procedures, and to client-facing skills. You will have the opportunity to attend external courses and seminars to enhance your learning in specific areas and to ensure you meet the requirements of the Law Society of Hong Kong’s Trainee Solicitors Rules. You will also have regular meetings with partners where you can discuss your progress and any other issues.
We provide financial support in respect of the PCLL course for those who accept an offer of a training contract before commencing the PCLL course. In addition, we offer (subject to the terms of the plans) private health insurance, travel insurance, life assurance and contributions to the Mandatory Provident Fund. A discretionary bonus may also be payable.
To apply, please complete an application form and please include a covering letter. Interviews will take place in either London or Hong Kong. Please ensure you are available to travel to either location.
